New Year, New You?

January is often a time of reflection, a time to think about new beginnings and what your aspirations are for the year that stretches out ahead.

Sometimes we can feel compelled to ‘join in’ with the media flurry of ‘get fit’, ‘juice’ and ‘detox’. The message to ‘be thin’ and ‘loose weight’ is everywhere you go – newspapers, magazines, radio, TV and at the front of every clothes store – the lycra gym kit!

Well at Fit and Healthy Mums we #daretobedifferent! We don’t consider January to be any different to any other month of the year …. We believe in health and wellbeing all year through. Providing support for you and your family when you need it!

You can make beneficial changes, no matter how small, at any time … And the small changes that are easy to incorporate into your day are often the ones that stick for good – not the 21 day juice detox!

Here are our top 5 things you can do this January to feel great:

Get those steps up: walk, run, jog or skip to move during your day. The recommendation is to achieve 10, 000 steps per day. Top it up with a 20 minute walk.

Stretch – try a yoga or pilates class. These are often as much about the movement and exercise as the technique and relaxation of a slower pace. Feeling taller and stress free.

Get outdoors – the fresh air is great at any time of year but the shorter days, the heating and damp weather can be off putting. Just put on those trainers and breathe ... A hill is just a bonus!

Drink … water! It’s known as ‘dry-january’, if you can that’s great but the more water you can drink the more toxins you can eliminate from your body.

Eat a Rainbow – if you can eat 5 portions of fruit and veg a day, which are all a different colour then you are going a long way to ensuring your body is full of all the nutrients it needs.

If you are making resolutions then go for it, just make sure they are manageable so you feel motivated, not like its another ‘thing to do’.

If the year ahead feels daunting and all a bit overwhelming just go day by day, and make a small change that makes you feel great.
